Lai Thai Guest House ★★★

Is really good value, I have stayed iplaces that were way more expensive but not as nice. Is a simple, clean room, a bit kitch but charming kinda like old Thai style. You can hear the Main Street but is not that bad. The staff is super friendly and they did my room everyday. Unlike the previous hotels I’ve stayed in Thailand.

There is a lot to explore in walking distance. The staff was nice.

Due to the big busy streets around the old town it is noisy throughout the day & night. I didn’t consider this from the map & would chose another location in a smaller street for my next stay in town.

The mattress and pillows were really uncomfortable. Also the floor made a funny noise when you walk on it that you could hear it from other rooms too

Apart from the very polite and friendly staff that always greeted you with respect and a smile, the only thing good the Lai Thai Guest House had going for itself, was that it was just over the road, from Chiang Mai old city, and within walking distance to all the various night bazaars.

The Lai Thai Guest House didn't really meet our expectations, where after viewing the properties promotional photos beforehand, where even the pool looked inviting, we booked what was described as a deluxe double room with bamboo-lined walls. But what we ended up with, after being shown three, was just a plain-painted, basic room. There were no wardrobes, bedside cabinets, or even any drawers to put your clothes in, in any of them, so we were forced to live out of our suitcases for the duration of our stay. There weren't even any tea or coffee making facilities. And if you wanted to store your valuables, you had to pay extra, where they kept them in a safe at reception!! Then aside from being dirty and probably bug-ridden, where we both suffered bites and itches, the mattress was rock-hard and uncomfortable, where it was like sleeping on a concrete slab, and the two single pillows weren't any better either. The shower room didn't have any form of nonslip flooring, where we both had to be very careful of slipping in the soapy suds. And even though there were tables and chairs laid out, in what we presumed to be a dining area, in front of the reception, there were no signs of any restaurant activity. In fact, the only activity that was evident, was at the Red Jazz, where old-style songs were instantly repeated night after night. We would say that The Lai Thai Guest House is predominantly more suitable for the single, 'low-luggaged' traveller, rather than the 'suitcased-laden' couples or family groups.

The most silent airco ever in a hotel

The lack of a safe in the room is compensated by safes at the frontdesk. Crazy is that they ask 20B per day for a safe that is too small. no watercooker in the room

Location was good. I suppose what we paid was fair but why don’t they spend a few pounds doing it up and charge more?

The reception staff and their actual reception was awful. The room was tiny to the point it felt like a cell. Towels on sun lounger for hours with nobody sitting on them.

Staff could be a bit more attentive/ polite, but overall it was a relatively minor issue.

Swimming pool was great Location was great too close enough to action far away enough for quiet. Polite helpful staff let us keep bag in storage all day even tho we’d checked out.

Only one side of pool gets sunlight meaning very rarely sun beds free in the sun. Room is very dated toilet very VERY basic. No proper windows..

Stayed one night between travels in a double room with shared bathroom. The room was small but had everything you needed. The communal bathroom was clean and the water was hot! The pool was great! with plenty of sun loungers. Staff were pleasant. Good location and short walk from the gate. WiFi/ aircon worked well. Overall I would stay again.

Plug sockets located behind the TV. Difficult to say much else as we only spent a night there.

Pool was good! Room was ok, air con good and WiFi good. Fresh towels every day, toilet paper and bottled water. Location good to be out of hustle and bustle but close enough!

Shower took ages to get warm and not very powerful. Unecessary stuff in room like 2 random chairs and massive fridge. Tiles very slippy in bathroom (and around pool - watch out!) and could be kept cleaner.

The room did smell the smoke as an old dodgy bar. No hot water. Staff not so friendly. Renovation in the hotel which does not allow to have a proper rest.

Room slightly small and no twin room for us. There are too many unnecessary things in the room, making the room feel cramped. The bathroom looked very old.

Good location near Old City. Great for flagging down red bus. Very good pool. Friendly staff. Fresh linen daily. Happy hour beer 3 for the price of 2. Hot water to the hand basin. Good fridge/mini bar. Good restaurant.

Good air con but noisy. Nice carved wooden bed but hard as a rock. Could use power points adjacent to the bed for charging mobile devices.

I stayed in a deluxe room on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool. The room facilities were old - But I don't watch TV when away and the fridge worked so that was OK. The pool is great - not the postage stamp wading pool that a lot of places have. I ate at the hotel once - The food is not great - But it is quite OK and the prices are reasonable. The location is good. Right on the moat around the old city and ten minutes walk from the night market and plenty of bars and cafes within easy walking distance. There is a 7/11 10 minutes walk up the road and a supermarket 15-20 mins walk. The staff were helpful when I wanted an extra night - Even though Booking. com had none available. The Beers are buy 2 get one free so it works out at about 70 baht a beer for large Chang if you have 3. Recommend nearby places to eat - Kat's Kitchen for dinner. Chiang Mai Breakfast World (Picture included) for breakfast (Well Obviously) .

I thought the bathroom was a bit dangerous. As you will see from the attached picture you need to be careful as there is a recessed part of the floor to stop the water running all over the floor on which you could easily trip (Especially if it is dark). AC was pretty loud but once asleep I'm dead to the world anyway but it may effect some people. As noted before the furniture and appliances are old but again it doesn't worry me much. The floors are pretty thin and wood so if you have someone above you that stomps around or the bed is.. Well you know - If you don't mind walking up 2 flights of stairs (There's no lift) You are probably better asking for a room on the 3rd floor.

We arrived from Bangkok around midnight and the man at the desk was quite rude, he put us in what I am assuming is the worst room of the hotel as it was right at the back in the corner, as we had only booked one night. (I always book for one night, in case it is terrible and then I book more after seeing the room.) It was a twin room even though I had requested a double. We had breakfast here and the staff were not so pleasant there either. Not a great stay.
